Disciplinary Procedures

Disciplinary Procedures

At Oughtibridge War Memorial Junior Football Club, we are committed to ensuring that all our members play a part in creating a safe and positive environment for everyone.  To help us do that, we ask everyone to sign the clubs Play Your Part Code of Conduct in partnership with the FA.  By signing the document, the individual is agreeing to the expectations set out by the club and the FA as one of our members.  Breaches of the document will result in an investigation and potential disciplinary action by the club and potentially FA disciplinary action.

Our disciplinary procedures work alongside the Traffic Light System by which the FA hold all teams accountable.  If teams/individuals within teams exhibit behaviours which do not follow the Play Your Part Code of Conduct, we have a responsibility to protect our members by reporting these behaviours to managers/coaches who, will in turn report to the FA via the ‘whole games system’.  Referees are also expected to report behaviours.  This means that other teams and their officials will also report any of our members if they are found to be breaking the Play Your Part Code of Conduct. (Please see Play Your Part Code Of Conduct Documents for examples of behaviours). The Traffic Light System is then engaged and as a club, we will be given a list of actions to complete.  There may also be actions or consequences for individuals.  Actions and consequences can include educational courses, fines and expulsion from the league.

Within our club, we have our own disciplinary procedures which we will follow should there be a breach in the Play Your Part Code of Conduct;

Players

We understand that our junior’s will be learning about appropriate behaviour and there may be low level behaviour that is managed by the coaches using the ‘Supporting Our Young People’s Behaviour’ policy.  However if there are repeated breaches in the code of conduct or behaviours which risk the safety of themselves or others, coaches will move to these disciplinary procedures to manage the players behaviour.

1st Incident – A blanket approach from the manager to all the team, reminding them of the expectations of their behaviour eg. Sitting down with the team during a training session and reminding everyone.

2nd Incident – The manager (and possibly CWO) will ask to speak to the players parents/carers to discuss the concern and the consequences should things not change.  At this point the manager may restrict the player to training only for a set period of time or until they see a change in behaviour.  The manager must inform the committee of the steps they have taken and issues to date.

3rd Incident – Player and parents/carers to meet with the committee and manager to draw up an agreement together which outlines the expectations of everyone.  This may have a review period built in to ensure the agreement is working.  The agreement must be signed by the player, parent/carer, the manager and at least one committee member.

4th Incident – If there are further breaches to the Play Your Part Code of Conduct or to the agreement that has been drawn up, the club will have no alternative but to de-register the player.

Parents/Carers/Spectators

1st Incident - A blanket approach from the manager to all the team, reminding them of the expectations of their behaviour eg. An email or chat after a game

2nd Incident – The manager will ask to speak to the individual to discuss the concern and the consequences it could have on the child should the breach continue.

3rd Incident – Individual to meet with the committee and manager to draw up a spectator agreement together which outlines the expectations of everyone.  This could include the individual not being allowed to attend fixtures and training and the child having to be accompanied by an alternative adult for a fixed period.  The agreement must be signed by the individual, the manager and at least one committee member.

4th Incident – If there is a further breach to the Play Your Part Code of Conduct or the agreement that has been drawn up is broken, then the club will have no alternative but to de-register the individual’s child from the team.

Managers/Coaches and Club Officials

1st Incident – A blanket approach from either the chairperson or secretary to all club officials reminding them of the expectations of their behaviour eg an email or discussion at meeting

2nd Incident – The chairperson or secretary, along with the club welfare officer to speak directly to the individual and discuss the concern and consequences it could have should the breach continue.

3rd Incident – Individual to meet with the committee and draw up an Official’s agreement together which outlines the expectations of everyone involved.  This could include a club mentor being appointed to assist the individual for a fixed period to help reduce the risk or reoccurrences.  This agreement must be signed by the individual and at least one committee member.

4th Incident – If there are any further breaches to the Play Your Part Code of Conduct or the agreement that has been drawn up then the club will have no alternative but to ask the official to step down from their role.

The club or individual may contact the FA at any point to ask for support in disciplinary matters.

Whilst the measures may seem extreme to some, we want to ensure we give opportunities for change and keep people involved in this process.  We want children to keep playing football wherever possible.

We promise that all disciplinary procedures are fair and carried out with a uniformed approach.  No one will be treated differently on grounds of age, gender, gender reassignment, sexual orientation, marital status, race, nationality, ethnic origin, colour, religion or belief, ability or disability.  The club will ensure it treats people fairly and with respect.
